Fifty bowlers, caddies and spectators turned
out at Belleview Lanes in Englewood, Colorado
recently for a tournament using IKAN Bowler®,
a ramp-based assistance device designed and
manufactured by MGT Corp. of Brandon, Florida.
Organized by the city's Craig Hospital, a spinal
cord and traumatic brain injury center, the
tourney was planned as the first of an annual
event series. It was sponsored by the IKAN Bowler® Foundation, Craig N. Nielson Foundation, which
supports people with spinal injuries; and Adapted
Equipment Co., a medical equipment supplier
owned by the hospital.
Joe Gomez, Craig's director of therapy and
recreation, said the tournament could have accommodated
more than the ten who competed, but logistics
required organizers to keep the number down
in order to maintain a high quality for the
event. The IKAN Bowler® allows even high-level
quadriplegics to bowl by enabling them to control
the ball release. USBC has certified a league
using the IKAN Bowler®.
